- His full name is Sean Paul Ryan Francis Henriques.
- He was born on January 8,1973 in Jamaica.
- His parents were both talented athletes, and his mother Frances is a well-known painter.
- His father Garth is a Sephardic Jew of Portugese descent, and his mother is of African-Caribbean and Chinese descent; both were born in Jamaica.
- Many members of SP's family are swimmers. His granddad was on the 1st Jamaican men's national water polo team. His dad also played water polo for the team in the 1960s, and competed in long-distance swimming, while Sean's mom was a backstroke swimmer.
- Sean Paul played for the national water polo team from the age of thirteen to twenty-one. However, he gave up the sport in order to launch his musical career.
